Moving from
Ebb to Flow
While vacationing in Delaware several years ago, I experienced a moment
of personal truth as I walked the beach alone. I took a long, hard look
at my self and my life and did not like what I saw. I felt a lot like
the horseshoe crabs that for some mysterious reason would be on their
backs in the sand every morning unable to flip over so they could make
the trip to the life-giving water before it was too late. I too felt
unable to change my position in order to flourish and live as I was
meant to live. Every morning I would scurry about righting the large
crustaceans and watch as they headed home to the protection of the sea.
I wondered if I could ever make the myriad changes that would take me
from where I was to where I, too, would feel at home.
As I pondered how I came to live in the mountains far from my beloved
sea and family while yearning to do work that better utilized my
God-given gifts, I felt just as stuck as those big ol’ crabs. And just
like them, I needed help to flip over and head toward a new life that
would fill my soul’s longings. That was when I heard that still small
voice that sometimes speaks to our hearts and always tells us the truth.
I heard it say, “Don’t settle, you can do it.” Maybe I could, I thought.
And I did! Not right away, but when the time was right, I
changed my life. I resigned from my job, sold my condo in Vermont, bought one in Maine just
a short distance from family and the sea, and started a new career—all
within a six-month period! I graduated from prestigious Coach U (an
International Coach Federation (ICF) accredited school of coaching) and
have a life coaching practice that includes individual and group
coaching and retreats. Coaching is my passion as well as my job!
Are you like those horseshoe crabs? Or perhaps you are more like a clam
that has burrowed deep in the sand unable to see the light of day. You
may be like the hermit crab that goes from one empty shell to another
carrying a heavy load on your back. Do you find yourself working very
hard to keep-up like a small fish in a large school? Even if you are
more like a cheerful dolphin skimming the waves, you may feel that you
want more.
No matter your situation or heart’s desire, it would be a privilege to
come along side of you to help as you navigate the smooth or rough
waters toward the life you yearn to live. I would welcome an opportunity
to partner with you as you move from where you are now to where you want
to be.
